It’s exciting to see things are finally happening but a little frustrating that it can be a little slow. All in good time! 🙂

Work is currently happening in getting everything together for the incorporation so we can become Bendigo Hackerspace Inc. and be a legal entity. This allows us to have bank accounts and run as a not-for-profit group.

We have been approached by a couple of local businesses to put submissions in explaining what will be offered by the Hackerspace. As a result, this might lead to some sponsorship of the space to fund the startup and other projects. A letter has been drafted and will be sent out once Incorporation has been completed.

Along with this, the Bendigo Council is currently reviewing spaces they own and there is a possibility of us finding a home somewhere. Fingers crossed we can make something happen as this will be the biggest hurdle to overcome.

2018 is going to be the year we get a Hackerspace in Bendigo.

Planning and engagement has started to make this a reality so we have a space open at the beginning of 2019 with members who can start creating.  Here is a quick update of what has happened so far.

Incorportation

A group of people will be coming together soon to kick off the process of incorporating the association so everything will be official.  Why?  This will allow the Hackerspace to apply for a bank account and Insurances.

Funding

We have been approached by a company to write a proposal about the Hackerspace which might convert into a funding stream.  We will also start to converse with some local businesses about donations or even ongoing sponsorship to make funding the Hackerspace a little easier.

Members

The idea of the Hackerspace has been floated with the parents group of a local primary school and there may be a spot for us to setup a stall at the next fair.  This will get the word out of what we’re trying to achieve and generate a little more interest for potential members.  A local Homeschooling group has also been approached and seem interested in the idea once we have some more concrete offerings and a space to use.  More groups will be approached soon so the word will get around.
